Screenplay Academy

Screenwriting Studio and Private Coaching

With Certified Hollywood Screenreader Alan Pannell

About Your Script Coach

I am a five-year second round reader for the Austin Film Festival, a screenwriter & short film director, and occasional movie extra.

Formerly, I was a law librarian specializing in teaching law with film, a movie theater projectionist, and video store manager.

I have a master’s degree in Film and Popular Culture, with a focus on film & TV screenwriting, film & story analysis, and Hollywood history.

I bought my first film book at the age of 12 from a classmate for a quarter. It was a 16mm film catalog retrieved from the trash.

As a veteran contest reader, I have an insider’s perspective on what it takes to get to each level of a screenwriting competition.

I’ve read professionally in all genres, including drama, comedy, action, adventure, thriller, horror, sci-fi, and fantasy.

My goal, and the reason for Screenplay Academy, is to help new writers tell their unique story in the most powerful way possible.

Contest readers look for scripts to champion. Scripts that tell a compelling and unforgettable story. Get help from a veteran contest script reader with an insider’s perspective. Learn what it takes to get to each level of a screenwriting competition.

Many new screenwriters fall short by not being aware of the strengths of their stories. With the right mindset, you can push past old limits and take your  script to the next level. I specialize in helping you find the true heart of your story using your own inspirations.

I’ll help you identify the strongest elements in your screenplay and what areas need improvement. My feedback is highly personalized to meet the needs of your particular story and genre.
